Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.  The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Cor. 5:17

Flight 55

For those that are not familiar with The Upper Room’s Chrysalis, the organization describes a Chrysalis weekend as, “an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers.”

[1]

Five Red Bird Christian School students attended the event in Louisville, Kentucky at the Flaget Center this past weekend.  We are excited to be able to extend this leadership opportunity to students and plan for this to be the first of many weekend retreat opportunities for students.  Scholarships were possible through the generosity of a local Louisville area United Methodist Church.

Here is what a few of the students had to say about the weekend.

Kelsie, a senior at Red Bird Christian School, said; “Chrysalis Flight 55 was indescribable.  I felt so much love from the body of Christ there.  I, along with my sisters in Christ, got to really experience Christ.  I will never forget the people or the love that poured from everyone’s heart.”

Kara, a sophomore at Red Bird Christian School, commented; “This weekend meant so much to me because I got to experience God more than I ever have before.”

The experience helps us to fulfill our goal to train future Christian leaders and enable spiritual growth for our students.  The Upper Room website states, “The objective of Chrysalis is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities and places of work.  Chrysalis lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.”[2]

The experience does not end when they arrive home though.  The students are connected to a group of alumni from past events to encourage and lift up the teens as they continue to grow and mature in Christ for life.
